A simple and effective way of showing off the quality of wood is to create a live edge, natural slab table. This particular slab is one of two that was salvaged from a local beach. They showed some interesting figuring due to the double trunk rings evident in the grain, however, it wasn’t until the simple finish was applied that the colour of the wood really popped. The reds and oranges exploded like fire against the black spalting of the edge grain. This was one of the best surprises, you can see in the images below how different the wood looked before and after finishing.
